Julian Casablancas Previews New Solo Album At Surprise US Shows

The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has debuted a bunch of new songs at a number of surprise shows in the United States, following last week’s release of a teaser trailer for his long-awaited sophomore solo album.

Consequence of Sound reports, Casablancas debuted three new songs accompanied by his new band The Voidz at a surprise show in Washington DC on the weekend, followed by another spur-of-the-moment gig last night in New Orleans.

Last night’s show was a 10-song set, comprised of new songs, material from his debut LP Phrazes For The Young, his Daft Punk collaboration Instant Crush, plus cuts by The Strokes. New song titles reportedly include Ego, 2231, Dr Acula, and Arabic. See an image of the setlist below.

Reports suggest Casablancas will play a few more surprise shows, with his next gig tipped to be in Pensacola, Florida, before he makes his way to South by Southwest later this week. Julian Casablancas recently gave a sneak preview of his new solo album with a choppy two-minute clip showing footage of the frontman recording in the studio, some static news clips and various snippets of new songs audible throughout.

There is no further information regarding an album title or release date included with the video, but the album can be ordered on Casablancas’ website right now. Casablancas last solo album, Phrazes for the Young, was released in 2009.
