Future Music Festival Asia 2014 Day 3 Cancelled Following Punter Death

The organisers of Future Music Festival Asia have released a statement announcing the cancellation of day three of their 2014 event and countering reports that more than one person died while attending day two of the event, while the AAP report six people dead from drug overdoses.

According to the Australian Associated Press, Kuala Lumpur Police have confirmed the deaths of six festival-goers aged 19 to 28 due to suspected methamphetamine overdoses. The six were reportedly locals and pronounced dead upon arrival at their respective medical treatment facilities.

However, a statement released by FMFA 2014 organisers says only one death occurred on day two of the festival (14th March), with an investigation into the cause still ongoing. “This statement is in response to news reported in the media on the 5 alleged deaths…” opens the statement.

“We have lodged an investigation into the media reports. As at 5.00PM on March 15, we can confirm that one death, and not five, took place on festival grounds on March 14. A police report has been filed and we are working very closely with all relevant authorities in examining and determining the cause of this very unfortunate incident,” organisers continue in the statement issued via Facebook.

“In the interest of public safety we have heeded the authority’s advice to not proceed with Day-3 of Future Music Festival Asia 2014. This is also to help in the on-going investigation. We appreciate the understanding of all parties and will share updates on this matter as soon as possible,” they add.
