Courtney Love Helps Out In Search For Missing Malaysian Flight 370

Courtney Love has offered her assistance in the international search efforts for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, posting a satellite image to her Facebook page pointing out what she thinks could be the missing plane.

Using Tomnod, a website set up by a US satellite imaging company in an effort to crowdsource the search, Love posted an image on her Facebook page of a mass of water, using Microsoft Paint to scribble the words “Oil” and “Plane” with arrows pointing to blurs on the image.

“I’m no expert but up close this does look like a plane and an oil slick,” wrote Love. “Prayers go out to the families #MH370 and its [sic] like a mile away Pulau Perak, where they ‘last’ tracked it 5°39’08.5″N 98°50’38.0″E but what do I know?”

The same image has apparently been making its way around Reddit, and is dated March 12th, four days after the plane disappeared, making it unlikely that the plane would be visible just below the surface of the ocean if it had in fact crashed in that location.

But Love isn’t the only concerned citizen trying to help out with search efforts. DigitalGlobe, which operates Tomnod, last week trained its satellites on the Gulf of Thailand, the last known whereabouts of Malaysia Airlines flight 370, and within 24 hours the site crashed due to overwhelming user demand.

Officials have thus far been unable to locate flight MH370, with theories surrounding its disappearance ranging from catastrophe mechanical failure to hijacking.
