Skrillex Says Flume Collab Will “Surface When The Time Is Right”

Skrillex, real name Sonny Moore, was last in Australia over the New Year’s period to shake dance floors at Shore Thing and Beachlife, and while in the country, he teased a potential collaboration with Australian EDM golden boy Flume, which Moore has now confirmed will “surface.”

“Flume is coming into the studio tomorrow,” he told Triple J‘s Veronica and Lewis in December. “I’ll be seeing him tomorrow, so maybe we’ll make something, who knows? I mean technically What So Not is the artist on the [Shore Thing] lineup, so maybe we can all do something together.”

According to Moore, he and the ARIA Award winning producer “did a couple” of records, and “a lot of them are finished.” He added that fans will “see that stuff surface when the time is right” and that he was in fact working with both Flume and his What So Not collaborator, Emoh Instead.

“I was in there with Emoh Instead [and] Harley so it will be a What So Not and Skrillex track. We did some back to back sets in Australia and we just have fun playing and making music together. It just kind of naturally happened,” he recently told Triple J’s Lindsay ‘The Doctor’ McDougall.

Moore also touched on his newly unveiled full-length effort, Recess, released via his app, Alien Ride, saying, “I recorded like forty tracks for the album – not all of it finished. I wanted to put out something that had decibels, and dynamics as far as a record goes. I didn’t just want to put out bangers.”

Of his collaboration with Chance the Rapper, Coast Is Clear, he said, “It’s weird because I think it will shock people right away. I think you hear it the first time and it’s like ‘what the f-ck is this?’ But Chance just rides over it and it’s so elegant and awesome. It just happened so naturally.”

“We were hanging out at this show in Seattle and we ended up going back to the studio and cutting the whole record that night. In the context of the record, there were enough bangers already, and I wanted to do something completely different… it lives in its own world,” the dubstep star added.
