Courtney Love has followed-up on the piece of air crash investigation she revealed earlier this week by explaining that she’s “a little obsessive” when it comes to the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and that she wanted to raise awareness of the website Tomnod.
As News Feeds reports, Tomnod is an online crowdsource project owned by Colorado satellite company DigitalGlobe with the aim of identifying objects and places in satellite images. The website has lead to thousands of MH370 theories flooding the internet, some detailed here by CTV News.
The rocker’s image, which included arrows apparently drawn in Microsoft Paint that directed fans to what Love suspected to be parts of MH370 and an oil slick, became a sensation online. “I’m no expert but up close this does look like a plane and an oil slick,” wrote the former Hole frontwoman.
Love has now detailed to New York Magazine‘s Daily Intelligencer how the quaint and well-meaning image which created such a stir online was spurred by her obsession with the MH370 case, saying, “Yeah I went to the satellite site and just uploaded tons and tons of pictures.”
“I really doubt aliens took it. It’s got to be somewhere. I’m a little obsessive,” she continued. While some agreed with Love’s assessment of the satellite capture, Tomnod were quick to debunk it, explaining via Facebook that the oil slick and plane pieces were likely a result of boats in the area.
“I mean I don’t know anything about aviation per se,” Love added. “An article asked people to help search on Tomnod.com so I decided to give it a shot. I figured a plane would still be leaking some fuel so I searched for signs of an oil slick. I found one and there appeared to be an object nearby.”
“I don’t know if it is the plane or not, but I figured I’d do my part and bring some awareness to the site, for the sake of all the families involved,” she said. “I hope they find the plane, I pray they’re still alive, it’s sad and my heart goes out to all those involved. It’s the least I can do,” she concluded.
