Midlake Announce Australian Tour Dates

Psych-folk six-piece Midlake have today announced they will be returning to the country to perform on the opening night of Vivid LIVE 2014, joining already announced artists Pixies, Giorgio Moroder and Lauryn Hill. While in the country Midlake will also play one extra show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel.

Touring in support of their latest LP, last year’s Antiphon, the critically acclaimed Texan outfit’s fourth album is proving a watershed moment in their 15-year journey. Recording proved a turbulent period for the band with the departure of founding member and lead vocalist Tim Smith, in the midst of the recording process.

Guitarist and backing vocalist Eric Pulido stepped up to occupy his vacated role, finishing the album in six months and christening it Antiphon. The name “means a response to an oratory or piece of music,” explained Pulido to MOJO at the time “and this album is a response to what’s gone on with Tim.”

Midlake are now preparing to bring their most symphonic album of rural Americana yet to life on Australian stages, returning for the first time since their 2010 sojourn. Tickets for their Melbourne show are on sale now. Tickets for Vivid LIVE will be on sale from 9am, Monday 31 March.
