The Kooks Unveil ‘Hold On’ From Upcoming ‘Down’ EP

Brighton indie mainstays The Kooks are gearing up to digitally release their new EP, Down, on Monday, 21st April and they’ve now offered fans the latest taste of the upcoming release, Hold On, which sees the group progress even further into their new soulful and experimental direction.

“With this record we didn’t do any rehearsing beforehand… I’d write a song with [hip-hop producer] Inflo or on my own, put it up and we’d all play over it. There was a real freedom to the process,” said singer and guitarist Luke Pritchard of the band’s new approach to songwriting on the Down EP.

Hold On sees the band incorporating elements of ’70s R&B and ’60s Motown, with Pritchard’s falsetto harmonies and the band’s razor-sharp guitars accenting layered percussion against a soundbed of Northern Soul-inspired strings, all while retaining The Kooks’ trademark poppiness.
