Why Outkast Won’t Be Doing Splendour 2014 Sideshows

Punters and hip-hop fans have been in a dizzy since it was revealed yesterday that Outkast would be playing the 2014 instalment of Splendour In The Grass, after the legendary Southern rap crew leaked the news on their official website. So the question remains, will they be doing sideshows?

Nope. Or at least it’s highly unlikely. After news of the Hey Ya hit-makers’ reunion at Coachella and subsequent Governors Ball performance started making the rounds, the duo took to their official website to confirm their 20th anniversary plans and clear up some of the buzzing speculation.

“After headlining performances at Coachella in April, the influential group will be the marquee act at over 40 festivals around the world throughout the Spring/Summer of 2014 (dates to be announced),” the official statement read, and it looks like word is bond for the two stanky Southern players.

Outkast finally launched their reunion proper with a headlining set during Coachella 2014’s opening weekend last week and a look at the band’s upcoming tour engagements indicates that Andre 3000 and Big Boi will be doing little more than recreating that magic at festivals around the globe.

If the past is anything to go by, it should be clear that both members have little desire to turn their reunion into a full-fledged tour with sideshows, with speculation about new albums from the pair routinely quashed and a speculated studio reunion last year quickly rubbished by Andre 3000.

Among their commitments in addition to Splendour In The Grass, the legendary ATLiens are set to play Orange Warsaw Festival in Poland, Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, and the Wireless Festival in England, none of which presently have any sideshows attached, and are unlikely to get any.
