Moshtix Respond to Suspected Splendour Ticket Hacking

Moshtix have released a statement in response to the issues hampering Splendour In The Grass ticket sales this morning, explaining that a “technical issue” caused some punters to be hit with credit card fees in the thousands of dollars.

“During today’s Splendour in The Grass on-sale, due to technical issues some customers were erroneously offered reduced priced tickets and charged incorrect credit card fees,” reads the moshtix statement. “All of these affected orders will be cancelled today, and customers contacted to allow them to purchase at the correct prices.”

While the statement did not say determinately whether the site had been hacked, speculation by Twitter users this morning suggested that just before the excess charges started rolling in, the Splendour event details on the Moshtix site were linking to notorious drug website Silk Road. Music Feeds spoke to one ticket buyer who saw the “silk road” link at around 9am this morning.

At the time of the glitch, Splendour In The Grass announced via social media that punters should avoid “at all costs” tickets promising discounts of 50% as they were “invalid” and were the only one affected by the highly inflated extra charges.

Some unconfirmed reports have since suggested that the outrageous credit card fees may have been charged across a range of tickets. The statement by moshtix does not address this specifically, but said this was “an isolated technical issue that did not affect other ticket buyers and tickets are continuing to sell fast for the festival.”

Anyone that is concerned they have been charged the incorrect amounts can contact moshtix’s ticket support service at ticketsupport.moshtix.com.au. The moshtix website is now up and running again, with just camping and Sunday-only tickets remaining.

UPDATE 02/05/14, 11:42am: Moshtix has confirmed the credit card information of affected ticket buyers has not been compromised.

UPDATE 02/05/14, 12:26pm: Despite the chaos, Splendour tickets have now sold out.
