Hear Angus & Julia Stone’s Rick Rubin-Produced New Single ‘Heart Beats Slow’

Brother-sister folk power duo Angus and Julia Stone, each powerhouse musicians in their own right, have unveiled the first taste of their forthcoming Rick Rubin-produced self-titled album in the form of new single Heart Beats Slow.

The track has Rubin’s masterful fingerprints all over it, adding a smooth, r’n’b flavour to the siblings’ trademark, folk-inspired vocals. “He did use the word ‘groovy’ a lot,” said Julia Stone of Rubin in a forthcoming interview with Music Feeds. “He wanted to give our sound a bit more groove. His way of doing that was choosing a rhythm section that was predominantly hip hop.”

Their new album, produced entirely by the legendary Rick Rubin, is due out on Friday, 1st August through EMI. It will be the pair’s third studio release and follow-up to their award-winning record Down The Way.

“Angus and I saw this as an opportunity to make the record we never made but always wanted to,” continues Julia. “In the past, we’d made these records that we loved, but we never felt like, yeah, we got it. It felt as though what we did live was stronger than what we were recording. We hadn’t figured out a way of capturing that.”

“This time around, I feel there’s a lot more movement,” she added, explaining how the collaboration between them and Rubin has panned out. “He said he really liked our songwriting, he just wanted to bring a different sound to the songs.”

The new single is available now with a pre-order of Stay tuned for Music Feeds‘ full interview with Julia Stone, coming soon.
