The Strokes returned to the stage for the first time in almost three years to perform at The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester over the weekend. The performance was slated as a warm-up show ahead of the band’s forthcoming appearance at the Governors Ball Music Festival in NYC later this week.
The garage veterans performed a career-spanning set that featured classics like Last Nite, Reptilia, 12:51, New York City Cops, and Heart in a Cage, as well as premiering three tracks from their last studio album, Comedown Machine, live: Welcome To Japan, One Way Trigger, and Happy Ending.
Back in October, the band sent out an email to fans announcing that they were “toiling and writing” in preparation for a “return to the scene” some time this year. The comments were later rubbished by guitarist Albert Hammond Jr, who claimed that things in the band were far more vague.
“I know that when The Strokes tour again, it will be because we put something out – even though we didn’t tour the last one,” Hammond recently told Gigwise. “Doing a few festivals before you put something out is kind of gearing up the big machine, it just kind of helps everyone get ready.”
