Sydney band The Vines have resurfaced on social media after two quiet years, reigniting hopes that their much-anticipated sixth studio album may make its way to our earholes sometime in the near future.
The band updated their Facebook page with its first post since April 2012, posting a photo revealing their new lineup and band logo. The photo features frontman Craig Nicholls plus new members Tim John of The Griswolds and drummer Lachlan West also from The Griswolds and Something With Numbers.
The Vines were somewhat of a hiatus after they released their fifth album Future Primitive in 2011. In 2012 they were rumoured to have split up after drummer Hamish Rosser quit the band to join Wolfmother.
But, as Tonedeaf report, Lachlan West’s Instagram post from late 2012 confirmed that The Vines had been recording at Sydney’s 301 Studio and had “finished mixing.” Plus, last year management firm Parker & Mr French wrote in a bio on their website that The Vines’ sixth album was “in the incubator” and that 2013 would see an announcement about a collaborative side project from Craig Nicholls. Said announcement never came.
The two new Vines members Tim John and Lachlan West revealed to Reddit users earlier this year that they had in fact recorded two albums with The Vines, but had “no idea” when they would surface. “[It’s] unfortunately a very common tale with album releases, they continuously get pushed back for reasons unknown. it sux! hopefully it comes out soon,” they wrote.
