Having freshly settled the score with an epic, history-making drum-off on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, duelling doppelgängers comedian Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith have set their sights on another target, Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich.

In an interview with Spin Ferrell explained that their rivalry “will go on until the end of time”, adding that Ulrich is actually the third drumming doppelgänger involved in the everlasting dispute. “Lars gets pissed because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith,” Ferrell told the publication. “He can settle that score now, too.” Added Chad Smith, “There it is. The gauntlet is down.”

Also in the interview, Smith explained his long-time struggle with his doppelgänger status, saying that he often has to convince people of his identity. “Daily. If not hourly,” he said. “I was literally just getting coffee and this woman came up to me and said, ‘Oh, you’re so funny. I just love all your films.’ And I just went, ‘Get away from me!’.”

Smith also spoke of the first time he met Ferrell, at an after-party for the movie The Ladies Man, an encounter Ferrel does not recall. “You just looked me up and down really quick and said, ‘You’re very handsome,'” the drummer said. “I was like, “God, he’s funny.”

During the televised drum-off, Smith’s brothers in RHCP joined the show and Ferrell brought out his trademark cowbell. “A lot of credit has to be given to Chad and his team to actually get the Chili Peppers to do that whole thing,” explained Ferrell. “That was incredible, to actually pull all that off, and I had very little do with it.”

“No, see, now, Will’s being very modest,” chimed Smith. “I’m thinking I bring my guys and we do one of our tunes, boom, done. But you know what? Will got to ’em first. They played that creepy Blue Öyster Cult song.”

The duelling drummers also weighed in on Weezer drummer Pat Wilson‘s demonstrated skill of catching Frisbees mid-set. “Frisbees? I’ve seen Will catch ninja stars,” Smith said. “I once caught a marlin while I was drumming,” Ferrell added. “We once had a drum-off on the deck of a boat. And I snagged a marlin right out of the air.”
