Lorde “Excited” About “Totally Different” New Album

Lorde has updated fans on the progress of the follow-up to her 2013 debut Pure Heroine. Speaking to Triple J’s Matt and Alex, the New Zealand hit-maker said she’s “just at the beginning of the writing process,” having previously told the BBC that the album will be “totally different” to her debut.

“It’s kind of hard to explain how it’s sounding because I’m totally just at the beginning of the writing process,” the singer said. “But I’m excited because my life is so different and I’ve got this whole new set of experiences to draw on.” She added that she hopes to once again work with producer and songwriter Joel Little, who helped make Pure Heroine one of the most successful albums of 2013.

“I think I’ve learnt so much as a songwriter, there’s going to be so much of an improvement because of that,” she told the BBC. The Kiwi songstress went on to say that she was working on new music “quite tentatively,” adding, “It’s definitely still at the beginning and yeah, it’s totally different.”

Describing the changes in the new music, she said, “I wrote the last album about that world which was the suburb where I grew up and populated by my friends and people who were really familiar to me. Now I’m in a different place every day with new people every day and it’s a different vibe.”

Last month, Lorde told Stylist that her sophomore LP doesn’t need to match the success of her debut, saying, “To be honest, if the next record I make is really cool and I like it, I can handle it being really big and I can handle it being small. I have to play it every two years so if I love it that’s okay.”
