Watch The Smith Street Band Cover Courtney Barnett On ‘Like A Version’

The Smith Street Band have given the music of fellow Melbournian Courtney Barnett a touch of folk-punk as part of the triple j covers series ‘Like A Version’, with a performance of Barnett’s song History Eraser.

Frontman Wil Wagner explained the choice behind the cover, reminiscing on the time he spent with Courtney when they were both starting to make their way in the music world. “I used to bum around with Courtney, way back when, when we were both starting,” Wagner said.

“And now it’s crazy – we’ll be in London or we’ll be somewhere and there’s just Courtney posters everywhere. I was in the tube in London and walked past this big picture of my friend Courtney. It’s crazy, yeah, it’s awesome.”

Aside from their Courtney Barnett cover, The Smith Street Band also performed a slowed-down reworking of their own track Ducks Fly Together, live in the triple j studio. Catch both clips, below.

The Smith Street Band will tour in support of Violent Soho in July.
