Watch Courtney Barnett Cover INXS ‘Kick’ In Its Entirety

Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett took on the mammoth and daunting task of covering INXS‘ classic album Kick in full as part of Pure Pop Records‘ “Summer Of Classic Albums” concert series and now a full video of the performance has emerged.

Released in 1987, Kick was INXS’s most successful studio album, is certified six times platinum in the US and spawned many hit singles, including New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Need You Tonight and Devil Inside.

The Pure Pop concert series took place in 2012 and 2013 and saw the Melbourne record store play host to in-store live performances by Australian artists covering entire classic albums. Other artists included Julia Stone taking on David Bowie‘s Let’s Dance, Drawn From Bees covering The BeatlesRubber Soul and Ella Hooper tackling Destiny’s Child‘s The Writing’s On the Wall.

In her performance, Barnett put her own spin on the INXS classic, even recreating the music video for Mediate, which itself payed homage to Bob Dylan‘s Subterranean Homesick Blues, complete with cue cards onstage.

Barnett has reportedly finished recording her highly anticipated debut album, which is due for release in 2015. It will be the follow-up to her acclaimed 2013 double EP A Sea of Split Peas. Watch the entire performance of Kick below.
