PREMIERE: Joelistics’ Game Of Thrones-Inspired ‘Say I’m Good’ Video

Sydney MC Joel Ma first hit the scene as a member of Melbourne-based hip-hop crew TZU, turning out phrases under the moniker Joelistics. Continuing to wow audiences with his ability to meld Australian narratives with funk inspired beats, Joelistics’s latest single Say I’m Good is getting its video premiere right here on Music Feeds.

The track features on Joelistics’ latest record Blue Volume which hit shelves on just a few weeks ago. The record followed the MC’s acclaimed debut Voyager and was sparked by a messy break up and the tragic loss of a friend.

Say I’m Good is an amped-up protest song, balancing a serious discussion about Australia’s deteriorating political and social landscape whilst cleverly maintaining a sense of fun. The video, made in conjunction with creative powerhouse Oh Yeah Wow, continues that trend, set inside a colonial style wooden shed, the clip blends in animation while Ma channels his inner gregorian monk.

“The idea of a Gregorian suicide cult that are hell bent on their own comical destruction seemed to mirror the underlying political content of the song nicely,” explains Joelistics. “Our initial meeting was mostly spent talking about a particular episode of Game Of Thrones where a character’s head explodes like a watermelon and I think some of that conversation made it in to the finished product.”

“It was a one day shoot and we shot the day after a sold out gig in Melbourne at the Worker’s Club so I had a banging hang over but made it through with pizza, puns about Rolf Harris and Hey Dad and an unwavering professionalism from the crew.”
