Watch Prince And Nile Rodgers Jam On David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’

Punters attending the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans over the weekend were treated to a funk extravaganza after Prince joined Nile Rodgers to cover a David Bowie classic. The Purple One joined the Chic guitarist ahead of his own set to jam on the Rodgers-produced hit Let’s Dance.

As Rolling Stone reports, Prince has long admired Rodgers, who is experiencing something of a resurgence in popularity since collaborating with Daft Punk on their 2013 album, Random Access Memories. Prince interviewed the disco legend for the June issue of Essence magazine.

During the interview, Rodgers discussed how producing Let’s Dance and the album of the same name helped him bounce back after the infamous Disco Demolition Night – an incident that occurred in Chicago in 1979 where crates of disco records were ceremoniously blown up on a baseball field.

Rodgers expressed a similar sentiment on his Facebook page after the Essence performance, sharing an image of himself with Prince and writing, “How Proud Am I at This Moment? Playing Let’s Dance w Prince is so symbolic. That album w Bowie changed my life after Disco Sucks.”
