Weezer’s New Album Will Be ‘Pinkerton’ Meets ‘The Blue Album’

Weezer‘s Pat Wilson says the band’s forthcoming new album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, will sound like a cross between their landmark 1996 album, Pinkerton, and their 1994 debut, known to fans as The Blue Album. The band have also teased a previously unheard track, Return To Ithaca.

“If you took the Pinkerton band and then play all the other records – that’s what we sound like now. Bombastic, loose, kind of booming. This record sounds like it’s going to have the tight structure of Blue Album with a little bit more abandon like Pinkerton,” Wilson told Entertainment Weekly.

The band have slowly been unveiling details about their follow-up to 2010′s Hurley. It was recently confirmed that Everything Will Be Alright In The End would reunite the band with former Cars frontman Ric Ocasek, who produced The Blue Album as well as 2001’s The Green Album.

“Ric wasn’t the obvious first choice for us,” bespectacled frontman Rivers Cuomo revealed to EW. “It’s hard to even remember back to the beginning of 2013, but we weren’t sure of what we were doing or where we were going, and it was really helpful to talk to the other producers out there.”

“Eventually, as we meditated on all the different options, it dawned on us that the vibe we wanted and the sound we wanted and the energy we wanted, there was no one on Earth who could get that better than Ric,” he added.
