Megan Washington has won a significant payout in a settlement deal with Qantas, after she took legal action against the airline for misusing a video of her performing I Still Call Australia Home at a corporate event.
Washington initially sought $500,000 damages from Qantas after it allegedly misused used the recording of her singing the tune at Qantas’ 90th anniversary party on its website, YouTube channel, and during in-flight entertainment.
Fairfax Media reports, the singer alleged Qantas engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct and claimed the use of the video breached the agreement between herself and the airline over the performance, raising issues of copyright.
The case has been settled confidentially and while it has been reported that Washington left what has been described as a “significant sum”, the exact figure is unknown. It is believed Qantas agreed to pay her court costs, but disputed over how much they owed to cover the proceedings.
The acclaimed Queensland singer-songwriter is currently readying her upcoming sophomore album, There, There, due for release this September, and is set to delight fans when she embarks on a five-date national tour this August.
