Kasabian Frontman: “Running Over My Dad Was The Worst Day Of My Life”

Almost immediately after British folk-punk Billy Bragg compared Kasabian to heavy metal parody band Spinal Tap, frontman Tom Meighan proved just how Spinal Tap the band is by running over his own father in his car. An incident the singer has now referred to as “the worst day of my life.”

“It was a freak accident, it was horrible. That was the worst day of my life,” Meighan recounted to the Daily Mirror. “I can drive but it was in an automatic car. It was too fast. It was a real shock at the time… We have laughed about it now and that’s all you can do. I’m very close to my dad.”

“He’s a very amazing person to have around, so that happening was awful,” the frontman added. Meighan, who reportedly doesn’t own a license, initially refused to comment on the incident, which occurred when the singer was behind the wheel in a car park in his hometown of Leicester.

According to a Sun report at the time, the incident occurred after Meighan’s father asked the singer to release the handbrake on the car because he couldn’t get into the vehicle. However, the unlicensed Meighan pressed his foot down on the accelerator and accidentally struck his dad.

Meighan Sr reportedly spent a day in hospital after the accident, but luckily escaped any major injuries, receiving only bad bruising and a few stitches. “Tom himself felt awful about it all but thankfully his dad made a full recovery and saw the funny side,” an anonymous source said.
