Record Roundup: Little May, Bored Nothing, The Ninjas

Today’s Record Roundup is showcasing the best the East Coast has to offer, with forthcoming new releases from Sydney’s favourite ghost folk charmers, Little May, a bold new step for Melbourne’s own Bored Nothing, and the long-awaited debut EP from Brisbane powerhouse The Ninjas.

Little May – Little May EP

Little May have been charming listeners since they first slipped into the scene with their honeyed harmonies and delicate guitar work, which characterise a homespun genre that they’ve dubbed “ghost folk.” After 12 months of strong buzz, the Sydney trio will finally unveil their debut EP.

This unique and enchanting folk triumvirate’s self-titled debut will be available digitally and in stores from Friday, 10th October. It’s the culmination of 12 months of well-earned triumphs, including their first live show, first tour, and coveted spots on the lineups of Splendour and Laneway Festival.

Bored Nothing – Some Songs

For his second album, Melbourne songwriter Fergus Miller, who operates under the moniker Bored Nothing, did something his fans thought he’d never do and went high fidelity. Miller’s sophomore effort, Some Songs, sees the typically lo-fi artist venturing into 8 and even 24-track territory.

Some Songs is out Monday, 27th October, with the vinyl now available for pre-order via the official Spunk website. As well as treading through new sonic terrain, this time ’round Miller penned songs with an album in mind, making the new release his most accomplished and nuanced effort yet.

The Ninjas – The Ninjas EP

In their short time on the Australian music scene, Brisbane distortion unit The Ninjas have firmly established a reputation as one of the East Coast’s most raucous, dynamic, and ambitious young outfits. The Queensland duo will finally unveil a self-titled debut EP on Friday, 22nd August.

Recorded and mixed by various Brisbane producers, including Sean Cook (Velociraptor, Big Scary) and Magoo (Powderfinger, Regurgitator), The Ninjas have put together a release that showcases what taste-making blogs have known for some time – The Ninjas are the real deal.
