Childish Gambino Streams Creeping New Track ‘Candler Road’

Childish Gambino, the hip-hop alter ego of multi-talented actor and comedian Donald Glover, has unveiled a brooding new track titled Candler Road. The track is Glover’s first original material since the release of his well-received 2013 sophomore studio effort, Because the Internet.

Glover unveiled the track via his SoundCloud account without a description or any indication of whether it will serve as a standalone track or appear on any of his future projects. Glover has said he wishes to release a new album later this year, as well as joint EP with Chance The Rapper. Glover pulls no punches on the new track, laying claim to being “the last great American poet.”

Candler Road comes a week after the rapper took to Twitter to post a moving poem about being labelled a “white rapper.” Glover explained to followers that he wrote the piece after a conversation with his mother that was sparked by the continuing unrest in the US town of Ferguson, Missouri.

Glover was recently in the country to perform as part of Splendour In The Grass and a series of headline shows. His performance in Sydney made headlines after he unleashed a freestyle rap in which he called out many of the biggest rappers in the world, including Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
