BIGSOUND Live 2014 Day 2 – Fortitude Valley, Brisbane 11/09/14

Here we go again, BIGSOUND Day Two. Everyone was looking a little worse for wear, with heavy eyes and heads after the massive night before. Nevertheless, everybody was ready to rumble, eagerly awaiting a lineup of big names and an evening of clashes galore.

The first artist that anyone could get near was Eves. The pint-sized Brisbane native was not so small in sonic stature. Oh Hello had all bass tones amplified beyond recognition, sending the bar, the glasses and all the punters into transfixing vibrations.

However, it’s to Eves’ credit that her voice carried through, hitting all the right notes with unabashed enthusiasm and ease. Her track Zen received waves of applause before it even began, leading into a hazy harmonic number that illustrated her tremendous talents.

One of the standouts of the conference, Holy Holy welcomed the crowd inside the packed Elephant and followed with a sound that soared up into the open-air stage. Opening with House Of Cards, the set went onwards and upwards, cruising leisurely to an end that still came way too soon.

With their full-bodied tunes, the duo-turned-four-piece regularly prove themselves at the top of their game, bearing an unmatched grasp of sound and an understanding of how to treat a listener’s ears.

Meanwhile, Deep Sea Arcade showed once again why they’re among the best of Australia’s musical exports. It was no surprise to see them on the BIGSOUND bill, nor a shock to see them deliver what was a tight, wildly enthralling set.

The band looked refreshed, having undergone a bit of a switch-up before hitting the conference and, by the sounds of things, they’re as solid as ever. It was their hit Seen No Right which, in its unrelenting pop glory, ignited the crowd’s dancing shoes and sparked a party. Such is the power of great songwriting, it seems.

Thanks once again, BIGSOUND. A treat on the local social calendar and an experience like no other. Bands watching bands, the big names in the biz coming together to celebrate talent and inspire the next generation of artists. Until next year.
