Paul Dempsey Announces ‘3 Cities’ Acoustic Solo Tour

Something For Kate frontman Paul Dempsey had announced a three-show solo tour taking in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this November. The intimate performances will consist of Dempsey and an acoustic guitar, playing solo material, music by Something For Kate, as well as a cheeky cover or two.

Aside from his 3 Cities Tour, Dempsey is also set to play Adelaide’s Follow The Sun Festival this October. He released his debut solo album Everything Is True back in 2009, and followed it up with Shotgun Karaoke in 2013.

Dempsey’s penchant for putting his distinctive spin on a wide variety of songs is well known. We’re hoping he pulls out some Miley on tour.

Alexander Gow, frontman of Melbourne indie rock band Oh Mercy, has been added as the support act throughout Paul Dempsey’s upcoming 3 Cities Tour. On being appointed the opening act for Dempsey, Gow reminisced, via Facebook, as to when he first met the Something For Kate frontman.

“I met Paul on the Finn brothers tribute tour,” wrote Gow. “We bonded over mutual love of The Motels and World Party. After several Paul Dempsey at the piano ‘karaoke’ sessions I decided that Paul was, as everyone else already knew, a legend. He’s bloody good at the guitar, a great singer and real handsome too. Looking forward to the tour.”

For fans of Oh Mercy, Gow will be playing tunes from his band’s albums Privilege Woes, Great Barrier Grief, and Deep Heat, along with some new material the songwriter has been toying with.

Paul Dempsey’s show at The Corner Hotel, Melbourne on Friday, 21st November has already sold out. A second date has been added at the same venue on Thursday, 20th November. Tickets are on sale now. Full tour details below.
