A crowdfunding campaign developed by music charity Support Act has raised over $110,000 to support Australian music professionals who are facing hardship due to illness, injury or crisis. The organisation’s Bandwagon campaign is now the largest ever crowdfunding campaign for an Australian charity.
Support Act began their Pozible Bandwagon campaign on 3rd September, and have raised $110,374 at the time of writing. Major incentives for supporters have included a car donated by Allans Billy Hyde, personalised birthday messages from some of Australia’s best-loved artists (including Josh Pyke, Paul Dempsey, John Williamson and Violent Soho) and exclusive performances from Eskimoe Joe, Hoodoo Gurus, Megan Washington and more.
Mentoring sessions with music industry professionals such as Hilltop Hoods, Bernard Zuel (Sydney Morning Herald), Brett Cottle (APRA AMCOS), John Watson (Eleven), Kirk Pengilly (INXS) and Michael Chugg (Chugg Entertainment) have also been claimed as prizes by generous donators.
Support Act provides financial assistance to music professionals in all fields, including singers, songwriters, musicians, composers, techies, roadies and managers. According to a press release, demand for Support Act’s services has increased 500% in the last year, with the organisation receiving no government funding.
Speaking on the successful Pozible campaign, Support Act Chief Executive Joanna Cave said, “We are absolutely delighted to have received such a positive response to our campaign. The community has shown that music matters and that we do care about the people who make it when times are tough.”
There are two days left to donate to Support Act’s Bandwagon campaign, with birthday messages and other prizes still up for grabs. Rewards are available for donations as small as $5, which will get you a download of Cut Copy’s Where I’m Going and a celebratory shout-out in a forthcoming lyric video.
