Corey Taylor: Slipknot “Missed The Mark” On New Bassist’s Identity Leak

Slipknot have taken many measures to try and conceal the identity of their two newest members, the drummer who will replace Joey Jordison and the bassist who will take up the late Paul Gray‘s post, but according to singer Corey Taylor himself, they may have “missed the mark” on properly keeping the identity of their new bassist under wraps.

Last month, Slipknot released their new video for the single The Devil In I, the first to be taken from their upcoming fifth album, .5: The Gray Chapter. In addition to unleashing the band’s new masks, the clip may have shed light on the identity of Slipknot’s new bass player, thanks to a hand tattoo that matches exactly with a tattoo that belongs to Alessandro ‘Vman’ Venturella.

“We’re keeping it kind of on the DL, but not really,” Taylor told the host of Las Vegas show Corey Taylor Talks (via Blabbermouth), who also happens to be named Corey Taylor, though is not related. “Because somebody already pointed out the tattoos. I was, like, ‘Why didn’t we make him wear gloves?’ I was so upset.”

“We thought of all this stuff’,” he added. “We put the hood on him and then the mask, and it was, like, ‘It’s really hot, guys’. And then there is his tattoo for everybody [to see]. I was, like, ‘Well, we missed the mark on that one.'”

Venturella has worked as a guitar tech for Mastodon, Fightstar, and Coheed & Cambria and also plays guitar for the band Krokodil. In a recent interviews Taylor has said that Slipknot will not officially reveal the new musicians’ identities unless they absolutely have to.

The band’s new drummer, set to replace departed drummer Joey Jordison, is strongly rumoured to be former Against Me! skinsman Jay Weinberg, son of longtime E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg. Though the band have been careful not to officially confirm either name.

Speaking recently to Music Feeds, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root also declined to comment on the actual identity of the new members, but did open up about how they acclimated to the Slipknot recording process.

“I think they did really well considering the circumstances that were thrown at them. We threw the book at the drummer, we fuckin’ put him through the wringer. He did not have it easy. But he was up to the challenge with everything that we threw at him. He took it all and props to him for that,” said Root.

“The bass player was a little bit of a different situation, because we kind of had a little bit of a revolving door of dudes coming in and out and trying things,” he added. “Even Donnie came into the studio for a while and it just to a point where we were struggling looking for somebody and then the right guy presented himself sort of at the last minute. It worked out pretty cool.”

Slipknot’s new album .5: The Gray Chapter will be released on 17th October. The band will headline Soundwave Festival in 2015.
