Foo Fighters Meet ‘Polk Salad Annie’ On ‘Letterman’ Day 3

It’s day three off Foo-apalooza, a week long celebration which has seen the Foo Fighters take up residency on The Late Show With David Letterman playing alongside artists who inspired their forthcoming eighth studio album, Sonic Highways. This time round the Foos teamed up with Louisiana singer and songwriting legend Tony Joe White to perform his 1969 hit Polk Salad Annie.

The veteran swamp rocker took centre stage on this number, performing his enduring hit which details the life of a poor girl named Annie and her family, as she grows up in the rural American South, mirroring White’s own life. Never one to miss out on the fun, Dave Grohl helped out on vocal duties too.

“This is the guy here,” said David Letterman of White following the performance. “This is just between us. If I was this guy, you could all kiss my ass. And I mean that. That was delightful.” Foo Fighters will be back in the Letterman studio tomorrow as they continue their week of covers with artists that either inspired or even feature on their upcoming studio album, Sonic Highways and the HBO series of the same name.

They kicked off the week with a performance of Black Sabbath’s 1970 classic War Pigs alongside Zac Brown and followed that up by taking the stage with members of US outfit Heart to tackle their 1977 track Kick It Out.

Foo Fighters have also confirmed that we will hear the first full track from Sonic Highways as it makes its official debut this Friday morning (AEDT). Sonic Highways, the series, will premiere on HBO on Friday, 17th October US time and will be shown on Australia’s Go! one hour later at 4:30pm Saturday, 18th October (AEDT).
