Briggs, C.W. Stoneking Added To 10th Coopers AMP Longlist

Organisers of the 10th Coopers Australian Music Prize (AMP) have added another three names to the longlist, confirming that rapper Briggs, bluesman C.W. Stoneking and psych outfit Richard In Your Mind have all found a place on the growing list.

Briggs has been recognised for his debit album Sheplife, which according to an AMP judge, “references old school hip hop, so it’s big, bombastic at times – and it has a regional perspective. Owes a lot to 90s hip hop, which I loved.”

Richard In Your Mind’s album Ponderosa has been described as “diverse” and “idiosyncratic” as well as being in possession of both “Style AND substance”, while C.W. Stoneking’s Gon’ Boogaloo, officially out today, was called “a masterful work”.

Other acts already on the longlist include Ball Park Music, DZ Death Rays, Chet Faker, Hilltop Hoods, Buried In Verona, Remi, Caitlin Park and more. All the named acts will go in the running to compete for the $30,000 prize courtesy of PPCA. Winners will be decided by a panel of judges.

Previous AMP winners include The Drones in 2005 for Wait Long By The River And The Bodies of You Enemies Will Float By and Augie March for Moo, You Bloody Choir in 2006. The winner of the 9th Coopers AMP was Big Scary for their album Not Art.

Judges are still taking submissions for eligible albums hoping to be considered for the grand prize. To be eligible artist must be Australian, the work must have been released in Australia in 2014 and the album should consist of nine or more separate tracks, with a run time of at least 33 minutes 20 seconds.
