Jamie xx Says The xx’s New Album Is On Its Way

English producer Jamie xx, who is also one third of acclaimed band The xx, has confirmed the group’s third album, which will follow up 2012’s Coexist, is “coming”, while also detailing the progress he’s made on his debut solo record.

“We’ve got quite a lot of songs that are not finished, but I’m excited about it,” the producer told The Fader. “It feels a lot more free than when we were making the last record.”

Jamie xx said the band have been inspired by being in their hometown of London, after a hectic touring schedule off the back of Coexist. “I think the most inspiring thing, really, is just not being anywhere crazy and just being at home,” he said.

The producer also said his own debut solo album, which includes three years’ worth of music, is near completion, having just returned home from New York where he was mixing the record.

“There’s one track where I need to get the vocal on, but I don’t know who the vocalist is going to be yet,” he explained. Fans already have a taste of some of the new record with previous singles Girl and All Under One Roof Raving, both of which contain spoken word verses.

“I never really listen to lyrics,” he explains, “but I can understand [them] a little bit more when it’s spoken word rather than singing. It gets to my head a bit quicker.” Neither album has an official release date yet.

Jamie xx may sample some of these new tunes when he heads to Australia soon as part of both the Falls Festival and Field Day lineups.
