The Smashing Pumpkins have shared another track from their forthcoming 10th studio album Monuments To An Elegy. Titled, One and All, the track is heavy with grungy, distorted guitar further signalling a return to vintage Smashing Pumpkins sound.
Like the band’s previous single, Being Beige and likely all the other tunes on the new album, One and All features the drumming of Mötley Crüe‘s Tommy Lee, who replaced former drummer Mike Byrne, whose split from The Pumpkins was confirmed in June.
“I basically sang the whole song the first time I wrote it,” frontman Billy Corgan told HuffPost Entertainment. “It had written itself.” Corgan has been making headlines of late thanks to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, who ripped into Corgan for posing on the cover of animal activist magazine PAWS Chicago.
“Perhaps Billy Corgan is, I don’t know, off his alternative rocker,” the CNN anchor mused. Not one to stay silent, Corgan swiftly responded, labelling Cooper a “globalist shill”. Feuds aside, Corgan and Smashing Pumpkins have been raking in the praise of their new tunes.
“It’s been a long time since someone patted me on the back,” he added to the HuffPost. Lucky, as Corgan has threatened to disband The Smashing Pumpkins if the album flops. Monuments To An Elegy, due out in December, and next year’s follow-up LP, Day For Night, are part of the group’s mega-album Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, a suite of albums that began with 2010’s Songs for a Sailor and included 2012’s Oceania.
According to Rolling Stone, the group is still working on Day for Night. Writing on the band’s website Corgan said, “My goal now is to make a better record than the one I’m making, which is weird because if you heard this record as it stands it’s quite good. But everyone knows: quite good don’t mean squat in the wild west.
