Eminem Pisses Off Just About Everybody With New Shady Records Cypher

Eminem is receiving mixed reactions online following the release of a new cypher in support of his upcoming Shady Records compilation Shady XV.

Most of the attention is being directed at a line where he raps about punching Lana Del Rey in the face, but Em also lets fly at openly gay TV anchor Anderson Cooper, American journalist and noted feminist Gloria Steinem and NASCAR racer Tony Stewart, who was involved in a sprint car race incident where another driver was hit and later died.

Reports Billboard, the near 20-minute cypher features a collection of Shady Records’ artists like Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf, Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem who each deliver a series of extended a cappella freestyles, in their respective hometowns.

Eminem is the final one to take the stage and deliver his multiple verses. Never far from lyrical controversy, he raps about punching Del Rey “right in the face twice like Ray Rice”, in reference to the February assault of Janay Rice by her then-fiancee, Ray Rice, a NFL player for the Baltimore Ravens. Read the full line about Del Rey as it transcribed below:

“But I may fight for gay rights, especially if they dyke is more of a knockout than Janay Rice/ Play nice? Bitch I’ll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance/ ’Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens.”

Azealia Banks has responded to the lyric, tweeting to Lana Del Rey, “tell him to go back to his trailer park and eat his microwave hotpocket dinner and suck on his sisters tiddies.” According to Billboard, Del Rey is a noted fan of Eminem, having labeled him “the master of lyrics” in a 2012 interview.

Eminem has long faced criticism for his misogynistic and agressive lyrics, and this is far from the first time he’s called out a female celebrity on one of his songs. In these rapid fire verses he also takes on basketball star LeBron James, Britney Spears, Build-A-Bear Workshops and Jay Z.

“I became a millionaire and went down hill from there,” he says at one point. “I think of all the times I compromised my bottom lines and thought of rhymes that sodomised your daughters minds. Then I’m like, ‘dollar signs’.”

This new cypher is intended to promote the Detroit MC’s upcoming Shady XV album, a two-disc compilation celebrating the 15-year anniversary of Shady Records, Eminem’s powerhouse label. The album will include an all-star track, Detroit vs Everybody, that features Royce Da 5’9″, Big Sean, Danny Brown, Dej Loaf and Trick Trick.

According to Eminem’s official website, Shady XV is slated for release Monday, 24th November. See Eminem’s contribution and the entire cypher below.
