Watch A Meteor Light Up The Sky During A Modest Mouse Festival Set

US indie band Modest Mouse had a visitor of the celestial kind during their recent set at Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest, as an actual meteor blazed right over the festival stage mid-way through their set.

The band themselves tweeted a link to a video of the event, where you can watch the meteor fly over the festival site, while the band play the appropriately titled track, Dark Center of the Universe, from their seminal 2000 album The Moon And Antarctica.

The American Meteor Society have confirmed that the object seen travelling through the sky in Texas was a meteor that was “at least four feet wide, weighed about 4,000 pounds and burned five times brighter than a full moon.”

Interestingly, Modest Mouse were not originally supposed to be playing the festival at all. They were brought on as a replacement for Death Cab For Cutie when they cancelled their appearance. This was the first time they’d played live in Austin since 2011.

After lighting up the sky, the meteor disappeared with no official confirmation of where it ended up. Not unlike Modest Mouse’s much anticipated new album, their first full-length release since 2007’s We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank and their 2009 EP, No One’s First and You’re Next.
