Updated: Knife Party Cancel Australian Tour, Join Future Music Lineup Instead

Australian electro-house duo Knife Party have reportedly cancelled their upcoming December Australian Abandon Ship tour and will instead return to home soil as a part of the 2015 Future Music Festival line-up.

Knife Party were due to play five shows across the country in December this year. However, reports triple j, they were approached by Future Music organisers at the last minute and decided to opt for the festival slot instead.

“We were planning to come down and do a little tour over there,” band member Rob Swire told triple j host Richard Kingsmill today. “But we got approached by Future Music at the last minute who said, ‘instead of doing that why don’t you headline the main stage?'”

“We couldn’t really do both at once so we had to pick one and that was it.” Swire said that festival promoters “weren’t saying that we couldn’t [do both tours] but it just wouldn’t have made sense, I think.”

This will be Knife Party’s second consecutive Future Music appearance. They were last on home turf for a headlining slot on their own curated Haunted House Stage at 2014’s Future Music Festival where they unleashed their Knife Party Presents: Haunted House arena production.

Swire described Future as “one of the best festivals in Australia; one of the best dance music festivals in the world.” Just last week, Knife Party’s debut full-length album, Abandon Ship, leaked two weeks early on iTunes, quickly rocketing up the charts.

“We’re not exactly complaining – we love that people get to hear it early,” commented Swire on the mix-up. Other than Swire’s comments to triple j, Knife Party have not officially announced the tour’s cancellation.

UPDATE 17/11/14: Future Music Festival organisers have officially confirmed the cancellation of Knife Party’s headline tour of Australia, and confirmed the duo have joined Future’s 2015 lineup. Knife Party will perform across the country on the festival’s main stage.

Punters who purchased tickets to Knife Party’s cancelled headline tour will soon receive an email notifying them that they can purchase a ticket to Future with a $60 discount. Those wanting to receive a refund for their Knife Party tickets can do so via place of purchase up until 22nd December.

Tickets to Knife Party’s cancelled tour which are not refunded will be accepted for entry into Future 2015. The tickets will not need to be switched. To enter the festival with your Knife Party ticket, Ticketmaster ticket holders must enter through the General Admission Ticketmaster lanes, while Moshtix and Ticketek ticket holders must enter through the General Admission Moshtix lanes.
