Music Feeds Podcast Episode #128: 1200 Techniques

1200 Techniques are back together, making new tunes which are sure to reestablish them as one of the leading groups in Aussie hip hop. Vocalist N’fa Forster-Jones, known as Nfamas within 1200 Techniques, recently took some time out to tell Music Feeds why the trio are delving into new music, and what their plans are for 2015.

“We’ve been planning or meaning to do this for quite some time, it’s just timing hasn’t really worked out,” Forster-Jones said.

“We’ve had so many people asking us like, ‘Bro when are you guys going to do something?’ It kind of inspired us now we’re actually all in the same city and have some time to do it to get together and write some new music, and we’re happy with the outcome. It’s definitely a development on from what we were doing.”

1200 Techniques released their most recent album, Consistency Theory, in 2004. Their next musical escapade, a crowdfunded EP called Time Has Come, is set to take a slightly different direction to most contemporary Aussie hip hop, with no samples and plenty of guitar work.

Forster-Jones has also remained modest about the group’s heavy lifting in bringing Aussie hip hop into the mainstream. “Seeing it everywhere is fucking cool, you know? It’s really cool that it’s grown,” he said.

“We’re just dudes from around the way who were really into music and happened to meet and connect and write stuff and really wanted to lift up the scene.”

1200 Techniques will play their first show in 10 years at Melbourne’s Howler on 17th December (details below), and are already planning a more extensive tour for March/April 2015.
