Lorde has dug through her archives and shared with fans a clip from an un-released potential Pure Heroine song, Lost Boys, that ended up on the cutting room floor. Lorde says the track didn’t make the cut simply because “it was not a good song”.
“Found this little guy whilst trawling through my archives and thought it would be a cute thing to share with y’all, ” wrote Lorde, introducing the song sample on her Tumblr. “We wrote this song called lost boys in about march of last year, we spent a day on it and then never touched it again (it was not a good song, i promise, haha).”
“A lot of people asked what happened to lost boys, and i guess you’ll never hear the other three-quarters of the song,” continued Lorde, securing on the fate of the song she worked on with producer Joel Little.
“But there was something about these bridge melodies i thought was pretty. so here you go – a little pre-christmas look at the cutting room floor,” she concluded before apologising for the recording’s “shitty iphone quality”.
Lorde shared her first new music since 2013’s Pure Heroine this year with her various contributions to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Pt. 1 soundtrack, which the 18-year-old also curated. Her contributions included her single Yellow Flicker Beat, as well as collaborations with The Chemical Brothers and Miguel as well as Stromae, Pusha T, Q-Tip and Haim.
