Hear Frank Turner’s Cover Of A NSFW Christmas Song

Bluesfest 2015 act Frank Turner and producer Butch Walker have just finished recording Turner’s new album in a Nashville studio and, as goes the rule apparently, if you find yourself in a studio in December, you must record a Christmas song. Turner and Walker opted for the NSFW direction, covering The Breakdowns’ Merry Christmas You C***s. We’ll leave you to fill in the blanks.

The video of the duo performing the tune, which is described as being “not safe for work/kids”, begins with Turner introducing it as a “traditional Appalachian tune with roots in Scottish folk music”. The banjo-led Christmas song does start off innocuous enough, that is until the chorus kicks in.

The former Million Dead frontman will be touring Australian in 2015 with his backing band The Sleeping Souls as part of Bluesfest. He’ll also be playing headlining sideshows in Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Geelong, in addition to two New Zealand shows in Auckland and Wellington. See all those dates below.

Turner will be touring behind his fifth studio album as a solo artist, Tape Deck Heart, released last year and will perhaps premiere some tunes from the aforementioned Nashville recorded album, helmed by Walker whose other songwriting credits, according to NME, include Taylor Swift, The Wombats and Panic! At The Disco.

“I want to make a really rough-around-the-edges punk rock record, so we’re not going to take very long in recording it,” Turner said of the album. “I want to just hammer it out, me and The Sleeping Souls… I want it to sound fresh and raw and hungry.” The record is due out sometime in 2015.

To tide you over, have a listen to Frank Turner and Butch Walker’s Yuletide tune.
