Joey Bada$$ Charged With Assault On Falls Festival Security Guard

Rapper Joey Bada$$ has been charged with assault after allegedly punching a security guard in the face at Falls Festival in Byron Bay.

According to Fairfax, Bada$$ was stopped backstage by security around 8:30pm on Friday, just before he was due to perform on the festival’s final night.

An ABC report says police allege Bada$$ lashed out at a 20-year-old security guard after he was challenged for credentials. The guard allegedly told police he thought Bada$$ was an unauthorised person.

The guard was treated for a broken nose and other facial injuries by paramedics at the scene.

Bada$$, real name Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, was arrested after his performance and taken to Byron Bay police station, where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was refused bail and remained in jail overnight.

He appeared in Lismore Local Court on Saturday. There he was granted bail and ordered to face Byron Bay Local Court on 19th March.

Bada$$ played all three legs of the Falls Festival New Year’s festivals, and had previously appeared at Sydney New Year’s Day festival Field Day. He played WA’s Southbound Festival on Sunday and is due to perform two sideshows with Run The Jewels this week in Sydney and Melbourne.
