Watch The Wombats’ Murderous Video For New Single ‘Greek Tragedy’

The world’s foremost English band named after a cantankerous Aussie marsupial The Wombats have burrowed their way out of the recording studio to debut a brand-new single, Greek Tragedy, off their forthcoming album, Glitterbug.

The follow up to 2011’s The Wombats Proudly Present: This Modern Glitch was produced by Mark Crew (Bastille) and is thick with themes inspired by core songwriter Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy’s experiences in Los Angeles.

Latest track Greek Tragedy is no exception. “It’s a pretty personal song,” Murphy told triple j today. “It was a pretty odd time for me, something was ending, something was beginning, and things were overlapping… It was a pretty stressful time but I’m glad a good song came out of it.”

The indie rock trio have also just unveiled a gory new music video for the single (below), which features all three band members being murdered in graphically violent circumstances by a crazed fan, who’s hell bent on turning their cadavers into her own personal puppet show.

Glitterbug, which is due to hit Aussie shelves on 3rd April, also features the single Your Body Is A Weapon, which was originally released as a free download for fans in October, 2013. The Wombats will tour in support of the album, putting them in good stead for this year’s Groovin The Moo festival, which takes place across late April/May.
