‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Is Bringing His ‘Mandatory World Tour’ To Australia

The always on-point American parodist and satirist ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic looks set to tour Australia in the not-too-distant future, after alluding to still unannounced Australian tour dates on social media.

Yesterday, ‘Weird Al’ announced the initial dates for his perfectly named The Mandatory World Tour, which will see him perform across the US, Canada and Europe between May and October. Shortly after the announcement, ‘Weird Al’ took to Facebook to calm fans who had noticed the lack of shows in their city, and that’s when he let slip the existence of both Australian and New Zealand dates.

“You may have noticed there are a few holes in my otherwise packed touring schedule,” Weird Al posted. “This is because some dates haven’t been completely confirmed (like the Australia / NZ dates), and some dates we’re not allowed to announce yet for various legal/contractual reasons.”

“All I can say is, please be patient… Don’t give up hope quite yet… There are still a few more 2015 tour dates to be announced,” he added. The currently announced tour dates finish in early October. View his Facebook post in full, below.

Last year, ‘Weird Al’ told the Music Feeds Podcast he wants to tour Australia as soon as he can. “We’re talking about an Australian tour, we don’t know when that’s going to be but I’ve done three tours of Australia so far and I’ll love to do the next one as soon as possible. We’re trying to make that happen for sure,” he said.

‘Weird Al’s latest album, Mandatory Fun, was released in July 2014. The album spawned a series of typically entertaining music videos, including a parody of Iggy Azalea’s hit single Fancy, another of Lorde’s Royals, and a grammatically correct reinterpretation of Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines.

Currently announced dates for Weird Al Yankovic’s The Mandatory World Tour can be viewed at the Weird Al Yankovic website. Catch a teaser video of the tour, below, and stand by for confirmation of those Australian tour dates.
