Wes Borland Lays Into Limp Bizkit Fans, Calls A Spade A Spade

Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland has been forced to clarify recent comments he made about Limp Bizkit fans after labelling fans who will come see his band play on an upcoming rock cruise as “roided out tribal tattooed spray tanned Jell-O shot filled bohunks”.

Late last week in an Instagram post, Borland mocked the upcoming Limp Bizkit-headlined ShipRocked Cruise – which will also feature sets from Buckcherry, Sevendust, POD and Black Label Society – calling the event “Broatchella 2015”.

“Can’t wait to see me some roided out tribal tattooed spray tanned Jell-O shot filled bohunks do their best drunk MMA impressions in the top deck mosh pit,” wrote Borland in the post. “Whenever we aren’t on stage, I’ll be curled up fetal position in my cabin, palms up, while I desperately cling to the last week of my thirties as it slips through my hooked fingers.”

“So, I’d like to give a shout out now to all the other over-the-hill late nineties/early 2000s bands going on the cruise,” it continues. “Let’s give these people the raging alcohol fueled nostalgia fest they’re paying for guys! I know we can do it if we tune down low enough!”

Later speaking to NME, Borland insisted his intent in making that post wasn’t to criticise his own band’s fans. “I just don’t want our fans to get all butthurt and thinking I’m criticising them, because I’m not”. His explanation however, fell short of retracting his comments.

“I’ll retract everything if I don’t see a big muscly frat boy moshing in the pit. I think that is going to happen though so I feel safe,” he added. “I’m turning 40 next week and I think it’s funny that I’m spending the last week of my 40s on ShipRocked. It’s funny to me. It’s a joke with truth in it.”

Borland goes on to explain that the joke was a self-deprecating one, meant to be taken at his own expense. “I’m at the beginning of my mid-life crisis and this cruise sounds like ‘Let’s leave the kids at home and go listen to a bunch of nu-metal bands and have tonnes of alcohol.’ It doesn’t feel real. I want to call a spade a spade and have some fun with it. I’m not immune to criticism, for god’s sakes – I’m the guitarist in Limp Bizkit. I’m used to it by now.”

Elaborating with Stereogum, Borland says he doesn’t dislike being a member of Limp Bizkit. “It’s an interesting place to be, and I’ve always sort of thought of it as being a Democrat who’s voting in a red state, in a way,” he said.
