Lanie Lane Announces Her Retirement From Music

Sydney singer-songwriter Lanie Lane has announced that her handful of upcoming tour dates will be her last, revealing today that she will be departing indefinitely from the world of touring and recording.

In a statement the Sydney musician says she can no longer face the “uprooted-ness of the rock n roll lifestyle” and says she has no ambition to cultivate fame or attention any more. “At times, I have found the constant pressure that a touring & recording artist requires to be accustomed to, unbearable,” she explains.

“I utterly respect those who can withstand the pressures of a life constantly on the road and with the expectations for continued success. I personally found myself not liking who I was becoming under stress and difficult circumstances. It felt like a lot of the time I was either depressed or anxious, so I’ve begun to change the circumstances of my life to be back in the flow again.”

Lane adds that her retirement from touring and recording in no way diminishes her “love of creating, writing & playing music” and while she will continue singing, she won’t do it “in a way that puts any strain on my mind/body/spirit or creative flow.” “I’m a much happier and peaceful person when I live simply,” she adds.

Lane will honour her upcoming scheduled tour dates and writes that she hopes to play “some select shows in the future – the occasional festival or intimate house/garden concerts for fans”.

“I have deep deep gratitude for all of you out there who ever bought a record, a t-shirt or came to a show. It is because of your ongoing support that I’ve been able to do something that most musicians only dream of. Thank you so sooo much,” concludes Lane.

The Sydney songstress will conclude her touring life, bringing songs from her acclaimed debut album To The Horses and its follow up Night Shade to audiences in Narooma, Melbourne, Katoomba, Cairns and at Fremantle’s West Coast Blues & Roots Festival. See those dates below.
