After all this time, Tool still haven’t recorded any of the highly-anticipated follow-up to 2006’s 10,000 Days. It’s a cruel blow for the group’s super-patient (well, pretty patient) fans, but the album appears to be slowly approaching the recording phase.
Tool entered the studio with their frontman back in October 2014, but it’s clear that Keenan has only been working with the band intermittently since then. News that the band’s next album was “progressing rather nicely” arrived in the same month.
In a statement (below) posted to the Tool Facebook page today, frontman Maynard James Keenan says he has been regularly checking in with his bandmates, who are yet to record any finished tracks.
“Things [are] progressing nicely. Slowly, but definitely progressing,” Keenan said. “Nothing is recorded yet, but the guys are confident that the pieces are coming together swimmingly and will be ready for me to begin writing melodies and content ‘soon’.
“I’m as anxious to get this album completed as everyone else. But as history will show, you can’t rush these gents. Patience is Gold in this Sound Mine. In the meantime, as always, other things are simultaneously occurring. Life is too short not to create something with every breath we draw.”
Tool fans may be waiting longer than they thought for new Tool material, and this realisation has led to some choice reactions to Keenan’s Facebook statement, which can be viewed in all their meme-laden glory below.
Elsewhere in the Tool world, the group’s drummer, Danny Carey, has teamed up with members of Mastodon and Off! for a new maritime-themed supergroup called Legend of The Seagullmen.
