Sydney crew Sticky Fingers are about to kick off a national tour, one that sold out before they even got a chance to announce it, and so to warm up those vocal chords the boys stopped by triple j this morning to perform a cover of the DMA’s track Delete for Like A Version.
Before covering their fellow Sydney band’s breakthrough track, Sticky Fingers described the story behind it. Apparently, the song is a throwback to the crushing tragedy felt when a former lover deleted you from MySpace.
They then launched into the beautiful cover, stripping it back to mostly an acoustic guitar, keys, a few electric chords and some sparse harmonies. While in the studio, the boys also performed their Land Of Pleasure track Rum Rage, giving the song its live debut in the triple j studio. Watch the video below.
It’s an apt cover seeing as both bands are good mates, and often pop up in each other’s work. The house at the end of Sticky Finger’s Australia Street clip is DMA’s Johnny Took’s house in Newtown, the same house where the video for Delete was filmed. That video also has a cameo by Sticky Fingers’ Paddy, who actually played the bass on the original track.
Sticky Fingers are heading out on one last run of shows this March to celebrate their latest album Land Of Pleasure, before they start recording their next album in their newly constructed “STIFI” studio. See those dates – which yes, are all sold out – below.
