Over 50 Drug Arrests At Future Music Festival Melbourne

Victoria Police made 52 drug-related arrests at Future Music Festival in Melbourne over the weekend.

Police seized ecstasy, amphetamine, cocaine and cannabis as part of a sniffer dog operation.

Of the 52 arrests, 46 festival-goers were given diversions while the remaining six were handed cannabis cautions.

It follows the seizure of 7,500 MDMA tablets over the weekend believed to be bound for the Brisbane leg of Future which took place on Saturday.

The Melbourne drug-arrest numbers are way down in comparison to the Sydney leg of the festival where 168 were charged with drug possession and nine were charged with drug supply offences.

Adelaide will host the festival today marking the end of Future Music Festival in Australia for 2015. The festival was due to move on to Asia this week, however, it has been cancelled after authorities in Singapore denied them permits to hold the event due to drug-related concerns.

Sniffer dogs have been prevalent at most music festivals over the summer despite ongoing debate as to whether dogs should be abandoned and pill testing systems be introduced. Before Splendour In The Grass last year experts deemed that sniffer dogs influence punters to act dangerously and recklessly.
