UPDATE 15/04/15: Coachella Weekend 2 set times have been announced.
The AC/DC-headlined Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2015 is but days away, and as such organisers have dropped the set times for the festival’s first weekend, and yes clashes follow.
Even if you’re not heading down to Indio this weekend, and instead plan on tuning in remotely via the festival’s three-channel YouTube stream, these timetables offer a number of difficult choices.
Take Friday for example. You’ll have to decide between Angus and Julia Stone or Kimbra. Then, do you watch Tame Impala unleash their psych rock or check out Todd Terje do his thing? It’s not easy.
Then there’s the painful Saturday night clash between Jack White, Tyler the Creator and FKA twigs after which you’ll have to decide whether you close the night out with Antemasque or Swans.
St Vincent and Jamie xx are dangerously close on Sunday night, Mac DeMarco overlaps with Panda Bear and What So Not, while Vance Joy’s set clashes with those of Jenny Lewis and Marina and the Diamonds.
This week the Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett followed the lead of other large-scale festival Glastonbury, by defending their decision to book headliners AC/DC and Drake. “Coachella’s jumped the shark now 11 years in a row, according to the press, but not according to the people who hit me up to buy tickets,” Tollett told The Desert Sun.
He said he’s been aiming to book Australian rockers AC/DC for some time now. “We want to try some fun new things and AC/DC, no one can argue that they’re one of the best bands live. So, if you’re a festival promoter, you’ve got to try to go for the ultimate.” He added that Drake has “a catalog that is deep as can be” and “seems like he’s the logical next step” to act as a headliner following recent appearances from hip hop acts like Outkast, and Jay Z.
