The Darkness’ New Drummer Has Already Quit The Band

Well that was fast. British glam rockers The Darkness have broken the news of the departure of their new, now former, drummer Emily Dolan Davies, just a couple of months after they announced she had joined the band in the first place.

“Sad to say our fantastic drummer Emily Dolan Davies is leaving for new projects, and so we part ways with fond farewells,” wrote the band in a statement. “Emily played a huge part in the recording of our new album ‘Last of Our Kind’ and makes a final appearance in the video for our single ‘Open Fire’ which is coming to a screen near you soon.”

Davies was brought on to replace The Darkness’ founding member Ed Graham, who exited the band in late 2014. Back in 2013 The Darkness cancelled an Australian tour because Graham was suffering from complications after hip surgery.

Frontman Justin Hawkins told Classic Rock Magazine late last year that their new drummer is a “hard hitter” who has “revitalised” the band and has the “chops and the attitude that you need to be The Darkness’s drummer.”

According to Blabbermouth, Davies only made her live debut with the band last month. The band’s statement suggests she features on The Darkness’ new album, Last Of Our Kind, set to be released in the UK on June 1st.

Hawkins also described the record as “brutal,” adding”It’s definitely stripped back — with the exception of some mandolins. But when you’re doing medieval rock, you should have a mandolin on it.”

The band have yet to announce who will be replacing Davies and taking up The Darkness’ drumming duties. Listen to the audio of their new track track, Open Fire, below.
