Heavy music titans Tool aren’t letting U2 get away with their recent Record Store Day snafu unscathed. In a beautiful twist of irony, the Irish rock quartet, who recently gained notoriety by forcing their most recent album Songs Of Innocence on people who didn’t want it , failed to give deluxe vinyl copies of the same album to fans who did want it.
Instead, the band inadvertently gave away copies of Tool’s 1992 Opiate EP, which had been mistakenly enclosed inside a U2 sleeve on Record Store Day.
Even though the mix-up seems to have only affected a handful of customers at one single UK record store, Maynard James Keenan and co still took full advantage of the opportunity to take a swipe at Bono and, depending on how you interpret it, his god complex.
“Nice try, U2” the band posted on their official site. “Some very lucky people who purchased U2’s Songs Of Innocence during a recent record store release found instead a copy of Tool’s 1992 Opiate EP inside. Kind of makes you believe in mysterious higher powers, doesn’t it?”
But U2 aren’t the only ones Tool have been picking on lately. They also played a cruel trick on their own fans in honour of April Fools Day earlier this month. Cheeky bastards.
Tool are currently working on their long, long, LONG-awaited follow-up to their 2006 album 10,000 Days, which they’re hoping to release by the end of this year. Hahahahaha jks — who knows when that’s happening.
