While NSW music festival The Gum Ball is taking a break from this year’s festival circuit, another has popped up in its place. Organisers have announced the inaugural Dashville Skyline festival, a two-day event dedicated to all things Americana.
Launched by the same crew behind The Gum Ball and their July event PigSty, Dashville Skyline will be held at the same Lower Belford site in NSW over the October long weekend. It will celebrate the genre pioneered by such artists as Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, The Band, The Byrds, Johnny Cash, Creedence Clearwater and more.
“A lot of people were disappointed that The Gum Ball took a break in 2015, but it made it possible for us to put together this great new event, which celebrates the evolving scene for Americana music, food and culture in Australia, which we at Dashville really enjoy,” says organiser Magpie Johnston.
Tickets for Dashville Skyline will go on sale 1st May, with a line-up announcement due around the same time. Organisers say the bill will feature some of Australia’s best alt-country, pyschedelia, folk and soul acts, as well as international Americana artists.
As a special treat to punters, according to the event’s website, acts on the Dashville lineup will be asked to perform a cover picked from a list of the genre’s most loved songs. Those covers will be recorded live at the festival, packaged up on the spot, and gifted to all attendees at the conclusion of the weekend event.
Outside of the live music component, Dashville Skyline will also host songwriter in the round sessions and will feature a selection of American cuisine, cars and culture. If you’re at all intrigued by the festival’s name, its derived from Bob Dylan’s 1969 Americana album Nashville Skyline.
Full weekend and individual day tickets, with option for camping on either night, will be available for purchase from the Dashville online store. Dashville members will receive first dibs on tickets at a discounted rate. Head to the Dashville website for more details.
