The Rapping Granny From ‘The Wedding Singer’ Has Died, Aged 101

Today is a sad day for anyone who is lucky enough to have experienced ’90s rom-com The Wedding Singer. Ellen Albertini Dow, the woman who famously performed The Sugarhill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight in the film, has passed away aged a mighty 101.

Dow died on Monday, 4th April, but the reason for her death has not yet been made public.

Dow was born in 1913, and finally rose to the top of the geriatric rap game when she starred as the saucy grandmother Rosie in 1998’s The Wedding Singer, alongside Adam Sandler.

Aside from her appearances in The Wedding Singer, Dow also acted in Wedding Crashers (as another feisty elderly woman), a choir member in Sister Act and Disco Dottie in 54.

Dow has also appeared in numerous television shows, including Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Golden Girls, Just Shoot Me, Will & Grace, Seinfeld and Hannah Montana.

Thankfully, through the power of the internet, we will always be able to relive some of her choice scenes from The Wedding Singer, including her Sugarhill Gang rap, her Till There Was You cover, and her thoughts on intercourse (below).
